Phoenix Sky Harbor will get a new lounge

Phoenix Sky Harbor will get a new lounge by United Airline Club

In the near future, United Airlines will once again operate a lounge in the Phoenix airport.

A ceremony was held on Monday at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to announce the opening of a new United Club, which is scheduled to take place on September 27 in Terminal 3, next to gate E3.

Passengers flying with United will have access to a quiet spot to wait before their flights as well as services such as travel help, Wi-Fi, food, and beverages in the guest lounge which is 6,080 square feet in size.

United Airlines once had a passenger lounge at Terminal 2, however, it was shut down when the terminal was demolished in February 2020.

What can you expect to find at the new United lounge?

The United Club at Sky Harbor will have ample seating, with 122 chairs that customers of United Airlines may use to rest, get some work done, or mingle with other people.

According to Aaron McMillan, the executive director of hospitality and planning for United Airlines, there are roughly twice as many seats in this new lounge as there were in the previous one located in Terminal 2.

According to him, the lounge will include inclusive facilities such as bathrooms that are not designated for a certain gender. In addition, there will be a Wellness Room that is meant to serve nursing moms as well as individuals searching for a spot to meditate or pray.

People will notice an Arizona-centered aesthetic while they are inside the lounge. This style includes furniture and décor that was obtained locally as well as paintings created by local artists that were influenced by the desert terrain.

“The opening of this club is a reflection of our devotion and our commitment to the consumers in (Phoenix) and our community as a whole as well,” McMillan said. “The opening of this club is a sign of our dedication and our commitment.”

The opening of the lounge corresponds with projections of increased passenger traffic at Phoenix Airport.

Sky Harbor is undergoing expansion. According to the rankings provided by Airlines Council International, in 2021 it was the ninth busiest airport in the United States and the 11th busiest airport in the world based on passenger volume.

Phoenix International Airport, which is United’s sixth busiest airport that is not located in a hub, is already a significant participant in this market. However, it anticipates increasing capacity over the next several years, with an increase of around 80% beyond its existing capacity by the year 2026.

According to United, this is one of the reasons why a new United Club location is required in the Sky Harbor area.

The opening of the new lounge is consistent with United’s goal of updating the customer experience and meeting the expectations of its customers, which is especially important now that business travel has picked back up again.

The United Club at Sky Harbor will be the second new United Club to open in 2022, after a branch that opened in May at the carrier’s Newark hub. However, it will be the first United Club to open at one of the carrier’s non-hub airports since the year 2020.

How many different types of lounges are there in Phoenix Sky Harbor?

The United Club will be Sky Harbor’s sixth passenger lounge whenever it opens sometime in the near future.

As the third lounge in Terminal 3, it will be located between the elite Delta Sky Club for Delta Air Lines passengers and one of the two Escape Lounges now present at the airport.

Terminal 4 is home to the second Escape Lounge at the airport, in addition to the Admirals Club, which is only available to passengers flying on American Airlines, the Centurion Lounge, and the USO, which is only available to military personnel.

The Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club will shortly become Terminal 4’s eighth passenger lounge. This lounge will be located in the new Southwest Airlines concourse. Heather Shelbrack, a spokesperson for the airport, told The Republic that she anticipates it will open in 2023. However, she clarified that it would not open before Phoenix hosts the Super Bowl.
